Course Title: Web Publishing

Essential Knowledge and Skills
Students in web publishing study the fundamentals of creating and designing effective web pages using HTML, graphics, audio, and video files. Students will also explore manipulation of multimedia files for optimal use on web pages. Students will explore copyright and fair use laws as it applies to web based resources.Indicators of Student Learning
Upon the completion of this course, students will:
Technology
Develop web pages using Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) and Macromedia 8
- Explain and demonstrate the process of transferring files to a web server
- Manipulate graphics for optimal web page display
- Develop an appreciation of current web technologies and the importance of technology evolution by gaining a good understanding of the history of the internet.
- Design an easy-to-use web site with multiple web pages
- Utilize text formatting and tables in Web pages
- Create a storyboard and apply the ideas into the design of student created web pages
- Evaluate web sites for overall quality and clarity
- Exhibit legal and ethical behaviors when using information and technology, and discuss consequences of misuse.
- Research and evaluate the accuracy, relevance, appropriateness, comprehensiveness, and bias of electronic information sources Connect prior knowledge and new information to expand understanding of topics
Communication
- Share ideas and information in small group and whole discussions, using visual examples
- Use writing as a learning tool, e.g., journals, learning logs and research reports
- Use various media (i.e, sound, pictures, text) to convey ideas to intended audience
- Use the language of technology to clearly express technology ideas
Assessments
Upon Completion of this course students will:
- Demonstrate increased proficiency in Inquiry, Research and Problem Solving by Selecting appropriate tools and technology resources to accomplish tasks and solve problems
- Demonstrate increased proficiency in Technology by compiling an electronic portfolio to show progression of skills.
- Demonstrate competency in communication by using correct terminology, expressing ideas clearly, explaining analytical process, presenting ideas and information in visual presentations, written response, and multi-media presentations.
