Junior Honors American Literature

Oles

2007-2008

TEXTS: Moby Dick, Turn of the Screw, Winesburg, Ohio, Their Eyes were Watching God, The Great Gatsby, Glass Menagerie, Death of a Salesman, Light in August, One Flew over the Cukoo's Nest, Reservation Blues, Song of Soloman

This is a very demanding Honors course which will require students to dedicate a considerable amount of time to read the texts, not the on-line summaries.  Ample time should be devoted to this reading and students and parents should consider schedules between work, activities and school.  Student success in this course is very dependent on the time the student devotes to the nightly reading assignments. Random daily quizzes should be expected. Students will be required to write analytical essays as well as in class reflection pieces, study and test in vocabulary, and participate in classroom discussions. Students will also be required to research literary criticism and respond. In addition there will be several computer assignments and on-line projects.

Students must be responsible for their own behavior in class.   Cheating will not be tolerated. Using outside sources for essays is only allowed with appropriate citation.
